About Lakshmi Puja :
According to Hindu Mythology, Goddess Laxmi symbolizes wealth, fortune, power, luxury, beauty, fertility, and auspiciousness. Laxmi Puja is the occasion on which Hindu people use to worship Goddess Laxmi for the better wealth.
One of the main festival in hindu is Diwali, the Goddess of prosperity and wealth. It is believed that Goddess Laxmi visit everyone during Diwali and brings peace and prosperity to all. On the night of Diwali "Lakshmi-Pujan" is performed in the evenings. A traditional Pujan is performed after sunset in all the homes.
Laxmi Puja is mainly done on Diwali. Diwali is the chief event of north and western states of India but it is celebrated all over India.
As it is celebrated on the dark night of Amavasya, there is a belief that on this day Laxmi walks through the green fields and loiters through the bye-lanes and showers her blessings on man for plenty and prosperity.
Lakshmi Puja consists of a combined puja of five deities: Ganesha is worshiped at the beginning of every auspicious act as Vighnaharta; Goddess Lakshmi is worshiped in her three forms - Mahalakshmi (the goddess of wealth and money), Mahasaraswati (the goddess of books and learning), and Mahakali; Kuber (the treasurer of the gods) is also worshiped.
Lakshmi Puja Vidhi :
Place peetham in front of you, and spread red cloth or unused small towel on top
Place Goddess Lakshmi’s picture on top of the red cloth.
Put oil lamps on both side
Put Aggarbatti on the right hand side of the picture
Prepare a plate with kumkum, chandan, turmeric power, coins, betel nuts, and leaves.
Place banana on side
Place Prasad on side
Take 1 cup of raw rice, mix couple of pinches of turmeric powder, mix it really well and sprinkle couple of water drops and mix it again this is called akshata.
Place flowers on your right hand side and put akshata (prepared above) in the same plate
Keep water filled kalasha ready to your left
Place panchapatram or a cup filled with water and spoon in your front
Place paper napkins on side
Keep ganesha idol, lakshmi idol, lakshmi coins right in front of the picture
Your wife will sit on your right for the puja
Take bath and wear new clothes and do namaskar to your parents, guru or their picture and start puja.
The puja described here is very simple, if you know additional mantras or wants to play CD or tape later on, please feel free to do that.
